OAL Children's classes & kids camp

 
Ottawa Art League offers children's art classes

 
The Ottawa Art League is offering art classes in a fun, outdoor environment Wednesday, June 23, and Thursday, June 24, at the Ottawa Art League Gallery, 807 La Salle St.

Participants must be at least 8 years of age. All supplies will be provided. Class size is limited to 10. Each class will have a league member and helper. To register, call Sharon at 815-357-1556 or e-mail farmwife70@yahoo.com.

The following classes will be offered:
  • Beginning drawing, 1 to 3 p.m. June 23, $11. Students will learn how to sketch, shade, blend and polish using a graphite pencil, kneaded eraser and felt. The project is a birdhouse drawing on watercolor paper.
  • Advanced drawing, 9 to 11 a.m., June 23, $11. Students will learn how to make their drawings look like real life with one point perspective. This makes drawing buildings easy. The project is drawing a building in Ottawa.
  • Jewelry making, 9 to 11 a.m., June 23, $15. Students will learn how to design and assemble their own bead bracelet and necklace using memory wire and different kinds of beads. Participants will make and take home a bracelet and necklace.
  • Beginning pastels, 1 to 3 p.m., June 23, $11. Students will learn shading, blending, composition and how to use fixative. The project uses pastels on watercolor paper to make an abstract design.
  • Advanced pastels, 1 to 3 p.m., June 23, $11. High school students will learn how to use pastels to make a finished drawing.
  • Photography, 1 to 3 p.m., June 24, $10. Students will learn how to get the most out of digital cameras by composing great shots. Participants will take photos around town and are asked to bring their own camera.
  • Watercolors, 9 a.m. to noon, June 24, $12. Students will learn how to let the water paint your picture. Students will use Crayola crayons, straws and safe release tape for special effects. Project is a big flower.

Ottawa Art League hosts Kids Art Camp

The Ottawa Art League is hosting Kids Art Camp later this month in downtown Ottawa. Classes will be offered in drawing, painting, photography, pastels, cartooning and mandalas. All classes will meet at the OAL Gallery, 807 La Salle St., Ottawa. To sign up, email Sharon at farmwife70@yahoo.com. Class size is limited to five children. The following classes will be offered:
  • Watercolor, 9 to 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 30, $12, ages 10 and older. Students will learn how to paint a watercolor of leaves in a puddle of water and how to keep their colors where they want them.
  • Drawing, 11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, June 29, $10, ages 9 and older. Students will learn to shade and highlight by drawing a tree in Washington Square.
  • Drawing, 11 a.m. to noon, Thursday, June 30, $10, ages 9 and older. Students will draw a face made simple by getting the right proportions.
  • Composition, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, June 30, $12, ages 11 and older. Students will find focal point, horizon line and directional lines by making a picture with magazines, construction paper and markers.
  • Acrylic Panting, 3 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, June 30, $12, ages 12 and older. Students will paint a landscape painting using acrylic on a canvas board.
  • Clay, 9 to 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, $10, ages 9 and older. Students will make their choice of refrigerator magnets, Christmas ornaments or a necklace pendant with oven baked clay. Students will bake the finished product at home.
  • Cartooning, 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, $10, ages 9 and older. Students will plan and draw their own cartoon.
  • Cartooning, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, $12, ages 13 and older. Students will learn how to plan and draw their own cartoon.
  • Pastels, 3 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, $10, ages 9 and older. Students will make an abstract floral pastel painting.
  • Photography, 10 to 11:30 a.m., Thursday, June 30, $10, ages 12 and older. Students will learn about their camera by taking photos around town. Students must bring their own camera.
  • Mandela drawing, 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, $10, ages 9 and older. Students will make a drawing.
